RESOURCEShttp://www.catacombe.roma.it In part I this site gives brief histories, descriptions and information about Christian persecutions. In part II quizzes and tests are given for several sections of part I. http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/03417b.htm This site contains a thorough history of the Roman catacombs, as well as several outside of Rome. Of special interest is section III, which gives the Latin inscriptions (with English translations) of several tombs. http://www.arsmar.com/ce_art.htm This site contains a thorough summary of various types of art in catacombs as well as their archaeology and history. There is also a section on inscriptions with two clearly photographed examples. http://www.2020site.org/catacombs This site also is thorough in giving history, descriptions, art, and construction of catacombs. There are several diagrams in most sections. http://home.online.no/~cnyborg/cat_callisto.html This site gives a fascinating look at the histories of two catacombs: Catacomba di Domitilla and Catacomba di San Callisto. It also gives a number of links to churches in which the martyrs were re-buried or displayed. |
