Several workshops will be conducted throughout the year at the Austin College Jordan Family Language House, and at the Sherman High School.  Both facilities have computer language labs funded by the TIF project.

Workshops during the academic year will focus on the general concerns of teaching with material on the Internet, and on specific skills teachers need to develop to use Internet sites and create meaningful assignments.  The intensive, two-week summer workshop will focus on building assignments that fit within the existing curriculum and enhance it.  By the end of the workshops, teachers will have different kinds of assignments read to use in the fall.

The topics of these workshops are as follows:

February

  • General introduction to teaching languages with the Internet: Why do it?

March

  • Sample projects and types of activities already developed (WebQuests, virtual journeys, interactive testing,

 April

  • Search engines and resources for teaching language and culture.  Begin assembling materials for projects.

May
  • Begin projects

Summer (July 16-27)

  • Intensive workshop.  Participants will construct their projects and put them on web pages, learn how to use web editing software, edit digital images, scan, etc..
